Do you ever fall back in love after its gone?

I am married to a recovering alcaholic. He has hurt me physically and emotionally. Once he finally put his hands on me, he decided to quit drinking. It caused about three years of heartache in our five year relationship. I have fallen out of love with him and am still afraid of him. He is getting better as time goes on though and I worry if I'm not giving it enough time. Will I ever fall back in love with him or am I wasting my time?
